Moving files from one computer to another recently, I ran across some old presentations. One of these was a presentation I gave to college administrators in July 1996 on changes due to technology adoption. Some interesting notes include:

• What people care about is not who wins, but that they not take the wrong path. (Beta vs. VHS)
• Andy Grove in Fortune cover interview: "The Internet is like a 20-foot tidal wave coming, and we are in kayaks....It is going to lift you and drop you. We're just a step away from the point when every computer is connected to every other computer...."
• Eli Noam, director of Columbia University's Institute for Tele-Information, says in the new issue of Educom Review that "many of the physical mega universities ... are not sustainable, at least not in their present duplicative variations." Noam predicts that "ten years from now a significant share of conventional mass education will be offered commercially and electronically."
